Ulus Republic Monument
Iconic 1927 bronze equestrian monument in Ulus Square sculpted by Heinrich Krippel, commemorating the heroes and solidarity of the War of Independence.
Erected in Ulus Square in 1927 as a national tribute from the Turkish people to the heroes of the War of Independence, the monument was created by Austrian sculptor Heinrich Krippel.
At the apex, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is depicted in military uniform astride his horse 'Sakarya'. Flanking the base are bronze statues of two soldiers (one calling comrades to battle, the other scanning the horizon) and a heroic Turkish woman carrying artillery shells on her back, symbolizing nationwide wartime sacrifice.
