Roman Theatre

Ancient Roman Theatre in Ulus discovered in 1982, reflecting the monumental performing arts culture and sculpture of Roman Ancyra.

Discovered in 1982 in the Ulus Bentderesi quarter, salvage excavations were conducted by the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations from 1983 onwards, revealing vaulted subterranean corridors, the semi-circular orchestra, stage building remains, and seating tiers (cavea).

Masterpiece Roman marble statues, relief fragments, and friezes recovered here are preserved at the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. Dating to the 2nd century AD, the restored theatre stands as a striking testament to imperial Roman Ankara.
