Juliopolis
Ancient Hellenistic and Roman city in Nallıhan Çayırhan, featuring hundreds of rock-cut sarcophagi, chambers, and chamber tombs.
Located along the shores of Lake Sarıyar in Nallıhan’s Çayırhan region, ancient Juliopolis was a strategic episcopal and trading city along the Roman military and pilgrimage highway to Jerusalem, renamed in honour of the Julian dynasty.
Systematic excavations by the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations have documented over 500 rock-cut chamber tombs, carved sarcophagi, exquisite gold jewelry, and bronze coins. Often called 'Ankara's submerged city', it is one of Central Anatolia’s richest necropolises.
