Aslanhane / Ahi Şerafeddin Mosque
13th-century UNESCO World Heritage hypostyle wooden mosque in Samanpazarı, renowned for its 24 carved timber pillars, Roman capitals, and turquoise-tiled mihrab.
Situated in Samanpazarı below Ankara Castle, this 13th-century Seljuk/Ahi architectural jewel was commissioned by Ahi leaders Hüsameddin and Hasaneddin, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Its interior features 24 massive cedar pillars crowned with antique Roman marble capitals, an intricately carved Seljuk walnut minbar, and a stunning turquoise faience-mosaic mihrab. A stone lion relief in the adjacent tomb gives the mosque its popular name.
