Etimesgut
Named after 13th-century Ahis, home to the historic Atatürk Fountain, historic railway heritage, Eryaman Göksu Park, and Turkish History Museum.
Located 21 km west of central Ankara, Etimesgut derives its name from prominent 13th-century Ahi guild leaders, Ahi Mesud and Ahi Elvan. The tomb of Ahi Elvan stands in the courtyard of Elvanköy Mosque.
Among the district’s cultural monuments, the historic Atatürk Fountain has stood since 1928. The architectural character of Etimesgut Railway Station is notable as the historic site where Atatürk was greeted and bid farewell during his journeys between Ankara and Istanbul.
In the Eryaman neighborhood, Göksu Park—with its expansive lake, promenades, and picnic lawns—is a premier weekend destination. Every October, the district hosts the International Anatolian Days Culture and Art Festival.
