Ethnography Museum
Inaugurated in 1927 on Namazgâh Hill by architect Arif Hikmet Koyunoğlu, Turkey's first purpose-built state museum showcasing Islamic and folk arts.
Crowning Namazgâh Hill in Sıhhiye, the Ethnography Museum was built in 1927 by architect Arif Hikmet Koyunoğlu in the First National Architectural Movement.
The museum historically held the temporary sarcophagus of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk from 1938 until his transfer to Anıtkabir in 1953. It displays supreme masterpieces of Seljuk woodcarving (including 13th-century mosque minbars), Ottoman court textiles, weapons, manuscripts, and regional folklore.
